Recently I've moved
back in toward town from far west St. Louis County.
I've come to appreciate the bike paths in Forest
Park.
When
time is a concern or I simply want to put on a few
miles without using the car, I find the short 2 mile
trek to Forest Park a relaxing way to clear my head.
It's
not uncommon to overhear other cyclists doing the
exact same thing. Forest Park is an asset
cyclists need to take advantage of.
Improvements
are being made on the paths. There's always an
interesting group of people to watch as you ride the
7.5 mile loop. However recent measurements made with
a GPS device gives us a different length of 5.7
miles thanks to a tip from a website viewer.

Right in the heart of the
city is a perfect place to ride any time of the year.
The outer bike path can be crowded during the peak
months of Spring and Summer but why shouldn't it be.
It's a great place to ride! It's often over looked as
being too tame by more experienced riders but it's
whatever you want to make it.
Besides riding the trails you can take in all the
beautiful scenery that is well maintained by the St.
Louis City Parks Department. Recently, Forest Park has
gone through a true renovation that needs to be
revisited from time to time. I feel lucky to live only a
short riding distance from the park and it's on my
regular schedule, especially during the weekends.

Park
Forest is actually larger than Central
Park In New York City.
It's great place to ride when you need
to get away from traffic.

It doesn't
matter what time of year it is. Ride at
your own pace. |

Ride along
streams of water when you take some of
the more interior paths. |

Don't be
surprised when you find little almost
unused paths that make you feel like you
are almost out in the woods.

Don't
forget to ride across all the bridges
that span over the well maintained water
features. |

Description
St.
Louis' Forest Park, first dedicated at a large public
ceremony in 1876, consists of 1,371.75 acres, making it
one of the largest urban parks in the country. In 1904,
the western end of Forest Park hosted the World's Fair.
The only permanent building remaining from that event is
the Saint Louis Art Museum. Today, Forest Park plays
hosts to over 10 million visitors a year. Besides
biking, the park offers various activities, including
softball, cricket, rugby, tennis, golf, archery,
fishing, horseback riding, lacrosse, soccer, ice
skating, and roller skating.
The
Forest Park Bike Paths run throughout the park, and
hilly sections of the asphalt bike path provide
cyclists with a good workout. An exercise par course
is located along the bike path near the park's north
edge between Lindell Boulevard and Grand Drive.
PARKING
Parking
